The Dara Institute has implemented several projects in art, culture, health and social inclusion that are qualified to offer tax incentives to business sponsors. This mechanism has increased the organization´s capacity to create new programs and allow for the continuity of others.
The two main financing mechanisms are the federal Rouanet Law of 1991 that offers tax deductions to individuals and businesses that invest resources in cultural programs either in part or in total; and the municipal ISS Law, which offers tax deduction to cultural projects in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Among the projects that are sponsored through the Rouanet Law, is the Art-related Program for Families, which includes the Arteiros project, that uses art and games as a learning tool for children, and the Daras project, a series of income generating workshops for the women at Dara´s headquarters and those at Vila Geny, in the city of Itaguai.
Another is the Conectados Project that offers photography workshops for women as a strategy for personal expression and empowerment. The Daras Afro Brazilian culture and heritage project began with a presentation by university professor, Nielson Bezerra. In May, the Arteiras Project will begin an art therapy and mental health program for women.
The Conectados project offers photography workshops, with an emphasis on self-expression and social inclusion.
The Dara Institute recognizes the importance of these incentive mechanisms and understands that this addition to its fundraising portfolio helps not only the continuation of its work but increases the work´s impact.
