Who we are

PIONEERING IN INTERSECTORAL ACTION

Pioneering social technology to fight poverty and promote health and human development. This is our job.

The Instituto Dara (formerly Saúde Criança Renascer) is a non-profit social organization with no political-religious affiliation that works with its own pioneering social technology to restructure and promote the self-sustenance of vulnerable families from public schools, public health units, and Social Assistance Reference Centers.

As poverty is multidimensional, Dara believes that the social transformation of vulnerable families is only possible when several areas of human development are addressed simultaneously and in an integrated manner.

For this reason, it has developed the Family Action Plan (PAF) social technology, designed according to the needs of each family.

ACTION FRONTS TO ACHIEVE OUR MISSION

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals

Instituto Dara’s work contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 goals that address key development challenges people face around the world.

Instituto Dara’s contribution to this fight was recognized in 2018 through an honorable mention in the SDG Brazil Award, offered by the United Nations Organization.

SDGs covered by Dara:

OUR PEOPLE

“Never doubt that a small group of aware, engaged people can change the world. In fact, this has always been how the world has changed.”

TIMELINE

Instituto Dara (formerly Saúde Criança Renascer) was founded in 1991 by physician Vera Cordeiro and a group of professionals from Hospital da Lagoa, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Over decades of operation, Dara has been perfecting an innovative social methodology to fight poverty: the Family Action Plan (PAF), a multidimensional and customizable tool, based on five pillars - health, education, housing, revenue and citizenship.

Our positive impact on families has proven successful over the years. Research from Georgetown University/USA (2013) proved that, three to five years after discharge from our program, family revenue virtually doubles and hospital readmissions drop by 86%.

Instituto Dara has shown that making social inclusion a reality and fighting structural poverty in an integrated and effective way is possible.
