The best of Brazilian music at a benefit concert

Stacey Kent e Danilo Caymmi homenageiam Tom Jobim em show em Nova York com toda a renda revertida para o Instituto Dara.
Some of our families have specific needs, whether related to health or improving their working conditions. You can help transform these realities!

Fighting poverty through the best of Brazilian music: this is the purpose of the new The Art of Brazil series, an initiative by Instituto Dara that brings together art, culture, and philanthropy to create opportunities for poverty alleviation while showcasing the richness of Brazil’s cultural heritage.

One of the highlights of the series is the concert A Tribute to Tom Jobim, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the passing of one of Brazil’s greatest music icons. Jobim’s legacy as a bossa nova pioneer and global ambassador of Brazilian music is unparalleled.

The performance will feature two distinguished artists: Stacey Kent, an internationally acclaimed American jazz singer, and Danilo Caymmi, a member of the illustrious Caymmi musical family. Together, these artists promise to enchant the audience with their renditions of classics such as The Girl from Ipanema, Desafinado, and Waters of March.

Danilo Caymmi
The youngest son of Dorival Caymmi and considered the heir to his father’s talent and humor, Danilo grew up closely connected to Tom Jobim due to their deep friendship. At the age of 15, he participated in the album Caymmi Visits Tom with His Children Nana, Dori, and Danilo. After graduating in architecture, he pursued a career as a flutist, collaborating with various artists throughout the 1970s and early 1980s.

In 1983, Danilo joined Tom Jobim’s Banda Nova, where he remained until the maestro’s passing in 1994. During this period, he was not only a flutist but also the band’s artistic director and Jobim’s right-hand man, participating in all of the maestro’s recordings. With Tom’s encouragement, Danilo launched his career as a singer while continuing to compose hit songs such as Andança and O Que É o Amor?.

In 2017, to celebrate Jobim’s 90th birthday, Danilo released the album Danilo Caymmi sings Tom Jobim, considered one of the best tributes to the maestro. Since 2018, Danilo has been performing the successful dramatic-musical show Viva Caymmi, featuring his father’s repertoire and receiving international acclaim.
