On April 12th. Dara transformed New York City’s The Town Hall stage into an arena of emotion and culture. The bossa nova soundtrack of the Tom Jobim Tribute benefit concert, starring Brazilian singer and songwriter Danilo Caymmi and American singer Stacey Kent, brought together an audience of approximately 800 people, who came to celebrate the wealth of Brazilian music and support social transformation.
Journalist Sandra Coutinho, TV Globo correspondent and master of ceremonies, opened the event with an emotional and personal speech: “My mother was a volunteer at the Dara Institute for 15 years. As a psychotherapist, she wanted to support an organization that not only gave the fish, but taught people how to fish. This is exactly what Dara does.”
Dr. Vera Cordeiro, founder, and Chairwoman of the Dara Board also shared the organization’s history and the impact it has had in more than three decades improving the health and social development of vulnerable families. Her speech moved those present and reinforced the importance of a philanthropy that is committed to concrete impact and results.
Also present at the event were Simoni Morato, president of Safra National Bank, and Richard Manoel, president of E-Social, who reaffirmed their support for the causes for which Dara works.
The event showed how art can be a tool for social mobilization bringing together culture, solidarity and social impact, a concrete manifestation of hope and global engagement. On stage, Stacey Kent and Danilo Caymmi drove the audience to delirium with an unforgettable tribute to maestro Antônio Carlos Jobim, performing classics that thrilled the audience and reaffirmed the transformative power of Brazilian music.
The event was an important initiative by the Dara Institute to promote Brazilian culture abroad and expand its international support network. By connecting art and social impact, the night at The Town Hall reinforced Dara’s commitment to use music as a tool for transformation and global engagement.
