The Literacy Brazil Program promote and coordinate the national effort to universalize the literacy of young people from 15 years and up, adults and elderly individuals. Access to education is a fundamental right and one of the determinant conditions for the exercise of full citizenship.
The program is part of the National Pact for Overcoming Illiteracy and Education of Youth and Adults, the Brazilian government´s commitment to educational equity and social justice. The Pact is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government, State and Municipal Governments and the Federal District. Responsibilities are shared among all. The Federal Government provides technical and financial assistance for the implementation of literacy programs.
The literacy activities of the class began in August 2025, at the headquarters of the DARA Institute, in Itaguai and 16 students enrolled. During the program, six students were referred to the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) program to continue their formal schooling process.
On June 30, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., at the City Hall of the city of Itaguai, a symbolic graduation ceremony took place in which the students in the program received a Declaration of Literacy, marking their completion of the Literacy Brazil Program.
